Dr. Graham Balson

Veterinarian

From a young age growing up in Northern Ontario, Dr. Graham Balson always knew that helping animals was his calling. He began fulfilling that dream upon graduating from Ontario Veterinary College in 1989. Before becoming a veterinary doctor, however, he fulfilled a long-standing family tradition and attended the University of Guelph, playing on the Griffons football team.

In the decades since, Dr. Balson has had a wide variety of professional experiences in the veterinary field. His first assignment found him practicing at a mixed animal clinic in the Grey-Bruce region of Ontario. Afterward, he returned to the Ontario Veterinary College to obtain additional training in pathology before focusing more on small animal medicine. For many years, Graham practiced emergency medicine, saving the lives of pets who required urgent care.

Dr. Balson now enjoys small animal practice and the benefits of developing relationships with the families of his patients. He believes in a client-focused approach to patient care, making the pet parent a part of the process when it comes to deciding on health care for pets. Graham’s special interests include surgery and internal medicine. He loves playing medical ‘detective,’ trying to figure out what is wrong with a patient when they can’t tell him how they feel.

Graham and his wife Michelle share their home with three busy children and a myriad of pets. They love their 5 cats, including one very challenging diabetic named Jackson. The family also has a silly labradoodle named Marshall, as well as several chickens which keep him busy! In his spare time, Dr. Balson enjoys skiing, hockey, golf and spends time coaching hockey and gardening.
